New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Congress leader Supriya Shrinate raised questions over the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, stating that the circumstances surrounding his departure remain unclear and that the country wants answers.
Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, while talking to ANI, said, “The country also wants to know the answers to some questions… We have seen the result of making others happy. I don’t know why all this has happened, but the picture is not as clear as it is shown. There are layers to it, which will open after some days…”
Echoing the same emotions, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following Dhankhar’s resignation, alleging that the party has a history of undermining constitutional institutions and procedures.
“The sudden and mysterious manner in which the Vice President resigned leaves many questions unanswered. The BJP has a track record of weakening both constitutional offices and processes. The BJP also has a track record of insulting constitutional officeholders and undermining the constitutional framework… What is visible and what is the reason are entirely different. We demand that Prime Minister Modi come forward and take the people of India and Parliament into confidence”, Surjewala said.
He noted that Dhankhar’s “sudden and mysterious” resignation has left many questions unanswered.
Surjewala further demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi come forward and brief Parliament and the people of India on the matter.
Meanwhile, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening, citing health reasons. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he said he was stepping down “to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice.”

“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution,” Dhankhar said in his letter.
“I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency – the Hon’ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing, wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure,” he added.
The Vice President is elected by an electoral college consisting of members of both Houses of Parliament, in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. Voting in such elections is by secret ballot.
The Electoral College to elect a person to the office of the Vice-President consists of all members of both Houses of Parliament.
An election to fill a vacancy caused by the expiry of the term of office of Vice-President is completed before the expiry of the term. In case a vacancy arises by reason of death, resignation, removal or otherwise, the election to fill that vacancy is held as soon as possible after the occurrence. The person so elected is entitled to hold office for a full term of five years from the date he enters office. (ANI)
