New Delhi [India], August 14 (ANI): The Delhi Youth Congress workers staged a protest outside the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday, following the allegations against the Commission by the Opposition.
Stepping forward with the senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “vote theft” campaign, Congress workers put up banners reading “vote chori commission” outside the ECI’s office in Delhi, intensifying protests against the ECI and Bharatiya Janata Party over alleged vote theft in the 2024 elections.
Alongside, the Congress held a massive protest against the “vote theft” in Rajasthan’s Japur on Wedneday. The top leaders of the party in the state, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, participated in the rally.
Gehlot criticised the Election Commission for demanding an affidavit from the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for enquiring into his “vote theft” allegation.
“Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, all these people have sent a message across the country through the protest in Delhi that votes are being stolen… Rahul Gandhi has also provided data, and the Election Commission is demanding an affidavit from him. We have seen this for the first time,” Gehlot told ANI during the protest march.
“What is happening is dangerous for democracy… In Bihar, 60 lakh votes were cut, but not a single vote was added… It is against this that the State Congress Committee is protesting, in which everyone is participating,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera has alleged that the BJP leader Anurag Thakur’s quick access to voter data of two parliamentary constituencies indicated an “understanding” between the ruling party and the ECI, on Wednesday.
Khera highlighted the disparity in the time taken to obtain similar data, saying it took the Congress four to six months to collect information for one Assembly constituency, while the BJP had secured data for two parliamentary seats almost immediately.
“It took us 4-6 months to bring forward this data of one Assembly constituency. They have released data for two Parliamentary constituencies. How did they get it? This proves that they have an understanding with the EC,” Khera said.
He alleged that Thakur might have obtained the data directly from the “electronic voter list” and called it “evidence of crime.” (ANI)
